Reviving Agile in NZ – a call to action

In the last decade, New Zealand has seen its large organisations embrace the need for a new ways of working, to stay relevant in the international scene. Seeing the documented success of Agile in some organisations and overseas, many organisations were excited to find ways to deliver faster, adapt to customer needs and shift competitively when needed.

We at ansense feel, the focus could slip in to commoditising “Agile”. We are seeing an influx of Agile Coaching jobs without a coaching culture established or promoted. We are concerned about the potential confusion between Business Agility and being Agile. We see many teams and organisations getting distracted with frameworks. We see people placing the word Agile infront of anything and hoping for the best.

We see our peers working far too hard to coach teams and leaders, only to be the first to be let go when the finances get tight.

We see organisations struggling to live up to the success of others, when there was no need to copy.

We equally see successful organisations leveraging agile mindsets to continuously uncover benefits and growth, while maintaining a great working environment for the teams.

We do not know what the answer is but we do know every one is trying their best and maybe instead of ‘doubling down’ on doing things faster and harder and with more discipline, maybe we need to think differently. We would like to revive the conversation around the why, the what it is all about and the problems that can be solved…

I want to use the term “Revival” as described in Dave’s keynote talks. and it’s only apt to invite Dave to New Zealand to kick off this conversation.

How we have understood and leveraged Agile to date, has gotten us to where we are now. There is an opportunity to set the tone for what is needed to leverage Agile to take us into the future
